The Whiteaker neighborhood added its own drop-in basketball league last fall at the old Amazon Park gym, drawing students from South Eugene High School and nearby middle schools. Organizers keep costs at $35 per season by using donated balls and rotating coaching duties among local residents who once competed in the same leagues.
Numbers show steady local growth
District data released June 30, 2026, listed 1,150 new sign-ups since January, with the largest gains in girls' soccer and boys' cross-country. Average family out-of-pocket expense stayed under $50 after scholarships covered the rest. Registration for the fall season opens July 15 at the Eugene Recreation Center on 13th Avenue, with priority given to students who attended at least three spring clinics.
